Forty four runners took to the 8 km out and back course in Evandale today in very strong winds particularly on the return journey. And speaking of returns, the race was won by returning member Andrew Howell after a 12 months plus break from racing with the LRC. Andrew ran a sub 4 minute km rate to get over the line from Shaun O’Reagan in second and Kate Clark in third. Andrew stated he has not done a lot of running recently and puts his level of fitness down to doing plenty of cycling and was pleased to perform so well in his first race for over a year in preparation for the Launceston Ten. I’m sure a few more runs will see that run rate improve even further. Fastest runners for the day were Austin O’Byrne in 29:50 and Amy Lamprecht in 32:18.
Slightly smaller fields in the junior races saw Bella Darsaklis breaking the winners tape marginally ahead of Corey Stanley with Jj Tai in third in division 2. Fastest male runner was Corey at 3:45 per km while the fastest female was Ella Boxhall at 4:31 per km. In division 3 Lani Tai managed to hold out Luke McHugh and a fast finishing Oliver Walker in third. Luke was the fastest male for the day with a run rate of 4:16 while the fastest female was Averyl Quinn at 4:44 per km.
Thanks to our sponsors Ricky Markham and Robyn Beattie for taking the time to prepare some great venison kebabs and patties which went down a treat. The club will ensure we have more of the same at an event later in the year. Anyone who would like to purchase their products can do so by contacting them directly.
Next week we are at St Leonards picnic ground for the Salon Nolas 5km Hcp. This is another race in the sprint challenge so be sure you keep yourself in the hunt by competing. See you there.
