44 runners meet at the St Leonards track on Saturday to race in the Andrew Willis Memorial Travelscene 5k race. For this race we tried something new and complicated – to run a handicapped race “on the track”. Unfortunately the counting of laps turned out to be a lot more complicated than we had anticipated and a mistake was made – on the day an incorrect winner was announced (we’re very sorry for any disappointment that ensued- sorry Scott Jones). However once the computer data was downloaded with all the laps recorded we can announce that the winner of yesterdays 5k track race was actually Danny Whelan! Well done Danny..
The computer recorded results picked up other discrepancies in the awarded place (for a full list click here) as some people did extra laps – obviously some of you just love running laps! The second place getter was Anne Davies who was also second last week and the third place getter was Fiona Webb. The fastest male was Josh Harris in 3 minutes and 4 seconds a kilometre and the fastest female was Amy Lamprecht in 4 minutes and 4 seconds a kilometre.
During the presentations for the 5k, a memorial photo of Andrew Willis was unveiled and will be hung in “his third home”, the St Leonards Athletics track club room.
In the division two 2.5k track race Benjamin Frost came in first from his brother Sebastian Frost and Lucas Galvin-Ridge who was third. The fastest male in the race was Lucas Galvin-Ridge and the fastest female was Ivy O’Byrne.
In the division three 1.3k track race Eloise Cooper came in first from Ashleigh Dettmer and Alex Zegveld who was third. The fastest male in the race was Luke McHugh and the fastest female was Eloise Cooper.
Next week we’re heading to the country to knock out 15.2k in the Badcock family race at Bishopsbourne. See you there.
