Race 1 of the 2025 Season took place today at the Heritage Forest with a lovely 59 runners competing for line honours. It was a great day for running, if a little cold at times and we welcomed ten new runners including seven new juniors. Our race was proudly sponsored by Michelle Frost – FitMINDFitBODY and ZenRun. Check out Michelle’s podcast with engaging interviews with many different and interesting characters within the running community.
Overall we have a great day with some First Day Jitters which were still not able to stop the fun! Thank you everyone for your patience today with a lack of “visibility” in respect to our timing equipment and thank you to Caine for getting us up and running… literally.. and only Yazz could say it best “The Only Way Is Up”.
We hope you all enjoyed your run today and look forward to seeing you next week at Race 2 – Rob Rick Dale Deer Farm. Don’t be afraid to register nice and early!!
Long Course Overview (6.5km):
Jo Cowie was our winner today with a solid and consistent run leaving the competition in her dust. Penny Heger came in 2nd, with Nik Matthews 3rd and Tony Bulter just holding off a fast finishing Sarah Menzie for 4th position. Sarah may have been pipped for fourth but was our fastest female with a speedy time of 27:06 and a course PB. Congrats Sarah!! A big well done also goes out to Shane Bishop, who was our fastest male today with a cracking pace of 3:23/km and a total time of 21:33!!
Short Course Action (2.5km):
It was a day for the Juniors in our short course today seeing them take out all the podium positions. Noah Webb finished strongly to take out the first win of the season, Freddy Barnewall held down 2nd position in his first run up with the “Big Kids”, with new runners Indianna Berwick in 3rd and Aarden Boonyanit in 4th. Liz Staak was the first of our “experienced” runners over the line and chalked up a great win to start the season off with a bang!.
Junior Course Highlights (1.5km):
The juniors had a solid field of 11 runners today and it was great to see them all out have a great time. Edith Tibballs was first over the line, closely followed by Jock Barnewall in 2nd and some more new runners in the Pilkington sisters Asha & Molly 3rd and 4th respectively. Well done to all for a great effort!!
Looking Ahead:
As we have mentioned, we are at Evandale next week for Race 2 – a lovely 8km, which Ricky and Robyn assure me is actually down hill on the way back!! Who am I to doubt those two.
