Today was the Sidmouth Gutbuster around the undulating hills that make your lunch threaten to come up by about the 7k Mark. When I met the traffic controller earlier in the year he said for safety you better not run all the way up the hill to the highway, he didn’t have to suggest it twice, we left the room and changed the course immediately.

Todays race was won by Leigh Geale, a man who has not really chanced since about 1995.

Leigh  broke through for his first win with the club today, he will tell you he has raced with the club for years, but its only been 30 odd runs, so settle down. Leigh has been saying for years he will win a race and that Essendon will win a final, well one of those happened today, the other hopefully never will. If you want to to hear the ins and outs of today’s run Leigh will tell you all about it in blow by blow detail, meet him at royal park tomorrow 6:30 am , he is probably going for a 30k run. In fact he is normally happy to give you an in depth recap of his entire running career, you don’t even need to ask. In second place was Robert Tatchell a man who can run pretty fast yet still never shut up the entire race but he is a club sponsor so I better say something nice about him….., and in third place was the lovely Fiona DeWit with an outstanding run on the hills.

The fastest male today was Matthew Zegveld who is in a close to unbeatable lead for club champion now thanks to some outstanding running this year. The fastest female was Deborah Pauna, who made a comment at the state the King and Queen are starting together (herself and the President) when my wife said you can have him if you want, she said “ohh god noo”  thanks for the confidence booster :P.   What was I typing about sorry, oh the race, yes the female club champion is a very close battle between Deb, Sarah Menzie and Katie Proctor.

There were no division two or three races today so they all got to freshen up for another week. Thanks to this weeks volunteers for giving up your time and supporting the race, Kurt, Georgie, Tim, Dan,  Pete and Rod, also thanks to the Rowella hall for the use of the toilet, the seat was a little cold on first sit, but it warmed up as you relaxed.

Thank you to our sponsor this week The Running Edge, a terrific long term sponsor of the club, we appreciate your support.

Next week we are off the University for the popular and quick 5k race around the campus sponsored by Launceston Podiatry. Just a reminder the University requires visitors to be double vaccinated on campus. Entries available on the website.

I am just padding this out, no one gets this far, I wont mention the footy and Sydney smashing the Bulldogs last night and how the umpires help the Bulldogs every week, because no one wants to read about that. This week we did visit St Giles and delivered an $850 donation, thank you to members and sponsors for raising this money for such a worthwhile cause.

Just  a reminder if you currently have a club shield from 2021 start returning those now and keep the 23rd of September free for the end of year dinner, remember all race winners get a trophy and will do a speech, it is always a fun night.
