44 hill loving runners took on the Lilydale Larder 16.6k race through the undulating hills of Lilydale on Saturday, in perfect weather conditions. First time club runner, Leigh De Jong won the prestigious Lilydale Lope from Mel Clark and Tom Groenewold. The Launceston mayor, Albert Van Zetten presented the winners with their awards while the MLC for Apsley, Tania Rattray, printed the second and third their awards.
It was the first time around the challenging 16.6k for 14 of the 44 competitors! As if 16.6k’s of hills wasn’t enough of a challenge, Fiona Webb also spent some time fighting off a couple of dogs during her race around the hills of Lilydale.
The fastest male home today was repeat offender (and current record holder), David Thomas – he quipping around the course in 54:38! Club champ Amy Lamprecht was the fastest woman in a great time of 1:11:35.
In the division two 2.5k race Sebastian Frost won from Hope Darsaklis and Ella Boxhall. The fastest male in this division was Ryan Holloway in 10:33 while the fastest female was Ella Boxhall in 10:41.
In the division three 1.5k race Joseph Rogers Jnr won from Peyton Webb and Harry Darsaklis. The fastest male in this division was Luke McHugh in 5:51 while the fastest female was Averyl Quinn in 6:36.
The North Launceston Athletic Club volunteers did a fantastic job marshalling on the course & helping to run proceedings today! While the races major sponsor, the Lilydale Larder provided a fantastic venue to the award ceremony along with fabulous food and great service.

Next week we have a fun 5k run from the Hoo Hoo Hut at the Trevallyn Reserve – this will be a fancy dress run to raise money for the “Give Me 5 For Kids” charity. So come join the fun with your best costume – there will be prizes!
