A beautiful Autumn day was the setting for the Ultrain Youngtown Trail 5 km Hcp starting from the Youngtown Memorial Oval. Mark Fyfe won the event in a good time of 22:47 to just get past Leon Stanley by three seconds and the very consistent Shaun O’Regan a short way back in third. Fastest recorded times for the day were taken out by Austin O’Byrne and Courtney Stanley in 18:47 and 24:22 respectively.
The challenging course was in perfectly dry condition as opposed to last years soggy and slippery track, making the move to have the event earlier in the season a good decision.
In the division 2 race, after a string of second places in recent weeks, Ella Boxhall bounced back into form to take out the 2.5 km event from Eliza Anderson who may have run a personal best to finish second and Ivy O’Byrne very close behind for third. Only 10 seconds separated the first four runners home with Ella Boxhall also claiming the fastest female with a km rate of 3:45 while in the male category Kurt Gay was fastest with a rate of 3:26 per km.
In Division 3, new member Abigail Talbot scored her first win with the club in holding off Averyl Quinn and Sisi Tai who made up the next two places. fastest runners were Averyl at 4:20 per km and the speedy Luke McHugh at 3:58 per km.
Next weeks race is the 16.6 km Lilydale Larder Lope with the start time of 10 for the junior divisions and 11am for division 1, however if we can get the clock started a bit earlier we will. See you next week for the next endurance challenge!
