If you want to win a race, then get your mum to sponsor it I suppose (kidding). Today we gathered in Evandale to be greeted by all the wind in the north of Tasmania gathered in one spot. The race is sponsored as always by Rob Rik Dale Deer Farm, with long time club stalwart Robyn Beattie representing them and on hand to see her wonderful daughter Penny take out a well deserved win. This weeks race was hit by a lot of covid related absences, a bit like everywhere in Tasmania in at the moment, but it was a hotly contested race and Penny was able to power along on the difficult wind affected course to grab a great win.

In second place was the man with the magnificent beard Caine McLennan, battling through pre-race sickness (well according to strava, we may need a certificate) to race through in an outstanding time, just ahead of the always strong running of Leanne Thomas who rounded out the podium places. Well done to all our runners, it was not an easy race today and we still saw some amazing running. Our fastest female today was Sarah Menzie flying around as always and our fastest male was Ricky Barnewall who seemed not to notice it was windy and did his usual outstanding pace.

In our division two race Liz Staak took second, she is also Robyn’s Daughter……(maybe i can get my mum to sponsor a race.) No Liz ran a wonderful race and took out a well earned victory over a fast finishing Emily Slocombe, who unlike her rubbish Richmond Football Club actually put in a full effort for the entire event. In third place was a speedy Tegan Bailey. It was a competitive little field in a race again hit hard by members in isolation. Our fastest under 18 female was Jada Rowlings who continues to impress moving up a division this year and our fastest under 18 male was Joseph Sepek, a very impressive new runner to our club.

In our first race of the day newcomer Chloe Marsh had a nice debut and took out first place, it was great to see such a look of joy on her face and hopefully it is the first of many runs with the club. Second place was another newish club member Noah Van Der Vlist, backing up from a great debut last week and in third place was Darcy Staak with a strong run. All 3 also broke the record for time to pick their chocolate prize afterwards, I guess too much choice can be crippling.

Our fastest male in this race was Marcus Finearty who is putting in some outstanding running already in 2022. Our fastest female was Jacinta Rowlings, she is hot on the heels of her older sister and running very well.

The full results for the race can be found here.

Thank you to all who braved our first cold windy day for a while and thank you as always to Rob Rik Dale Deer Farm for your continued support. Thank you too our many volunteers today, without volunteers the club cannot run, you are all legends.

I want to thank everyone for their patience today, as I said at the race we were down to 4 and half committee members today (Kate is one armed currently) and none of us have timed before. Excuse the self indulgence but I was very proud of all of them,  Natalie Slocombe in her first time race directing, Tim Reese taking over the timing duties, Kate Lee-Archer supporting Tim with the timing, keeping the starter under control and Georgie Sertori for being there. Georgie also spent a few hours getting the results into some sort of usable form so thank you to all 4 of those people, and the rest of the committee who helped during the week, especially the two handicappers getting a new system going. Thanks to both Dan McCowan and John Claridge, maybe I can move up a bit now lads?

Next week we are off to White Hills for the very hilly but enjoyable White Hills run sponsored by Van Diemen Brewery. Entries close 8pm Thursday night, we hope to see you there. Enter at this link.
