When the weighted down bollards and witches hats blow around as your mark the course you know running wont be easy. Shane Hanson likes to occasionally turn up to the club in the George Town area and give everyone a running lesson. Today he took out the Greaves Engineering Low head run with a great first run of the season. There were a lot of late withdrawals today, maybe due to the recent rain and poor forecast but in the end it was sunshine and gale forced wins that greeted us at low head. Shane took out first comfortably, followed in second place by Leanne Bishop with a very smooth run in trying conditions and Ricky Markham who was half way around the pilot station when most of us started, maybe he went to the coffee shop for a drink. Ricky was able to come back and cook the bbq though, which was much appreciated.
For some reason at low head we keep missing the finish line photo, but we managed to get this reenacted, thanks to Cameron Slocombe and his brother Josh (apparently he used to run) for sorting this out.
Our fastest male today was, just let me minimise the page, and scroll back, better double check, maybe it was me, could have been anyone..oh no it was Matthew Zegveld, with another impressive run and equally long warm up and cool down. Amy Lamprecht took out the fastest female, it is always exciting to get to the opportunity to run alongside one of the great runners of the local community and hopefully we see Amy at a few more runs, especially as she is now owed prize money.
Division 2 and 3 were set for a lovely sunny jaunt across the soft beach with the beautiful tranquil water alongside. Instead they were treated to a hurricane , crashing waves and soggy sand. Despite this (and many preferring to hide in bed) they took off with gusto. Division Two was a battle of the siblings with Gabby Heger finishing fast just ahead of her brother Jacob Heger, both with outstanding runs this week. In third place was Michael Howard, who is new to the club and it was great to see him hit the podium. Our fastest under 18 female was Jada Rowlings and our fastest under 18 Male was Harry Jackson.
In Division 3 Sebastian Abel took out his second win for the season with an energetic run across the beach, he look determined today and put in a great run. He was followed by Kobe Heger (a good day for that family) and Olive Howard, a close fought podium and a great effort by all. The fastest female was actually Olive Howard who is showing she is a determined new runner at the club and the fastest male was Alexander Murray, luckily his mum found the start line after driving laps of George Town before the race 🙂 . Well done to everyone in the two shorter divisions, they had the worst of the days conditions and thank you to all our fabulous marshals on the course. Without your support the run does not happen.
Thanks again to Greaves Engineering for stepping up as a new sponsor this year, welcome aboard.
